O’Death

O’ Death
Please take me from this world
This world is ugly
And not what I hoped for
It’s a world where
Greed is the ultimate monkey
On the back of every person
It’s a world without peace
It’s a world where
Great sex
Is easier to find
Than great love
Money is all everybody wants
Nobody cares about you
Unless you’re on TV
Or on the radio
You have to be a star
To be heard in this world
The stars are dim, though
They have no inner light
They shine for the paycheck
Green is the new black
Even pink looks green
Your 15 minutes of fame
Will be closely followed
By 15 minutes of scandal
Or heartbreak
Which in today’s market
Is one in the same
And the Piranhas feed on blood
Which is green
People today
Have cash registers for hearts
It’s not a fist wrapped in blood
It’s a fist wrapped in money
They take it
However they can
So where do we go from here?
Do we go to church
And pay for salvation
From a man or woman
Who drives a nicer car than you
And lives in a nicer house than you
And dresses nicer than you?
Absolutely.
Redemption isn’t free
You really have to pay for your sin
And you're paying for theirs too
Keep on working your two or three jobs to survive
Your hard work will pay off
For them
You'll just be broke in the end
By every definition of the word
So I want Death to come
Before it’s too late
Before I owe the banks
More than my soul is worth
I’m afraid that my mouth
Has already written a check
That my ass can’t cash
Or my soul
Because I’m not worth $.89 a pound
And in the 21st Century
You need a Million dollar smile
To get into heaven
Fuck it
I’m doomed
Give me another drink
And light me a smoke
I might as well enjoy the show
You never know
My train wreck of a life
Could be the next big hit
