Conflicted

Conflicted

By
Nathan Caleb Camerer

There’s a war raging
It’s raging inside of me
A war between my mind and my heart
A war where my passion is playing Switzerland
Battles brought on by awkward encounters
Awkward encounters where I think of you
The angel in my bed
The future embodied
Maybe
Possibly
The war rages on
What to do
Where to go from here
The war rages on
Collateral damage
Friends lost
Friends gained
Is this real
Am I being used
The war rages on inside
It took awhile for you to find me
Can you save me
Can you end the war
The conflict continues
I’m a police state
And you are the occupying force
Enforcing martial law
The war rages on
Can you end the war
Can you end the occupation
End it
End it now
Can this war be over
Can we end the war that rages
The war that rages inside
The war is over
The war is over
No longer the angel in my bed
No longer enforcing your will
Your will that I willingly follow
Searching the wreckage
For anything that is left
Finding nothing but knick knacks
And trinkets
The war is over

In Another Life

In Another Life

By
Nathan Caleb Camerer

I’ve got a secret to tell
But I’ll tell you in another life
Another life when we are both cats
When we can just lay around
Soaking up the sun
A secret that wouldn’t be
If we could have had a random encounter
Bump into each other buying bread
Maybe about a year ago
Maybe about a year from now
This encounter could still happen
Life as we know it could change
It could change for the better
Better for both of us
Maybe we’d be more like monkeys
Cleaning each other
More reliant on each other
Not as self sufficient as cats
It doesn’t matter
We could just be
We could just be one
One heart
One mind
In another life
In another life when we are both cats
Laying around
Cleaning ourselves
Soaking up the sun
In another life
A life as lovers
Partners
Maybe a pack of dogs
Dependent on each other
Together
Always together
In another life
In another life

Great Expectations

Great Expectations

By
Nathan Caleb Camerer

I expect the same thing from your friends and family
I’m sure they all think I’m lazy
Worthless
A huge piece of shit
Not worth the skin I’m printed on
Roll your eyes
Call me a dork
Buy me a beer and a shot
Hanging with me is cheap
A new job has my free time at a premium
Am I okay?
5 months ago I got engaged
6 weeks ago I lost both of my jobs
2 weeks ago my relationship ended
And I was kicked to the curb
The new job will kill my college career
I’m doing great
Sarcasm
Don’t do anything irrational
Like what?
Pop a handful of pills?
Wash it down with a bottle of wine
And hang from the edge of a tall bridge by my fingertips
I’ve always had a way with words
A useless skill at the new job
It’s not my career for life
It could open some doors
You can laugh at me
Laugh at my negativity
Help me find the smallest pinpoint of light
I don’t have an ex worth $90,000 a year
Just waiting to try again
It will take me more than a few days
To be a happy, happy boy
I’m the biggest lowlife piece of shit ever
You don’t think so?
I’m trying to be positive
Things look pretty fucking bleak
All because of my great expectations

Angel of Music

Angel Of Music

By
Nathan Caleb Camerer

Sing to me
Sing to me my angel of music
Use your words
Backed by a guitar
Bass
Keyboard
Violin
Banjo
Your voice loud and amplified
Or soft and delicate
Projected by only the air in your lungs
And backed by only the breeze
Or the soft sounds of the city
Barely audible thru the blinds
In this tiny room
Sing to me
Sing to me my angel of music
Use your words
Or the words of someone else
Backed by music controlled by a man pushing buttons on a machine
The result is the same
At the first sounds from your lips
To the last note you sing
Sing to me
Sing to me my angel of music
Use your words
Or the words of someone else
Take me with you
Lead me on
Tell me the truth
Lie to me
Show me what you’ve seen
Make me feel what you’ve felt
All in the form of words on a mic
Sing to me
Sing to me my angel of music
Use your words
Or the words of someone else
Play my heart
Play my emotions
Play them like an instrument you mastered long ago
Make me smile
Make me cry
Make me laugh
Make me move
Sing to me
Sing to me my angel of music
Use your words
Or the words of someone else
