Exceptions

Exceptions

By

There's never been anything like this
Except that one time,
When your sweat tasted like sugar,
While we tried to count the stars
136 or 137, I think
The red and the rum make it kind of hazy
There's never been anything like this
Except that one time,
Walking on bricks with our ears melting
Pride and prejudice weighing us down
Tripping on cracks and breaking our backs,
Never mind the ones of our mothers
There's never been anything like this
Except that one time,
When the bombs called "emotion" and "feelings" were being dropped
We stood our ground, naked and unafraid
Shouting in words of affection disguised as actions
There's never been anything like this
Except that one time
