Utopia

Utopia

By
Nathan Caleb Camerer

Seeing you in the morning,
That might be a Utopian dream,
But “Eu-topos” is a good place,
And “U-topos” is a place that can’t be
I wake up alone every morning,
So there isn’t a Utopian dream for me
Now I wait for catastrophe
Hoping my personality will be attractive to someone
Trying to be interesting
Working towards being modern
Living in a country of gray and brown
Hoping for some white on the trees
Snow in the skies
Laughter by a fire
Something is needed to make life funnier
Less darkness would be welcome
I can handle some gray,
But I need warmth on the coldest day of the year
I don’t know what to think of this
I don’t now what to do
I need to find myself again
Lose this profound sadness

Looking for Utopia

A Man Walks Into A Bar

A Man Walks Into A Bar

By
Nathan Caleb Camerer

A man walks into a bar
Wearing his whole life on his sleeve
A million stories to tell
All you have to do is ask
Listen closely
He will tell you how he got to that barstool
How he’s forgotten where was going,
But woke up where he was supposed to be
Listen to him tell about the time he was someone’s Angel,
Or the time he was someone’s perfect dream
See the wisdom in his smile
See the contentment in his realization that the world isn’t perfect,
His realization that we are all flawed
We are all ruined by the desire for more,
Even when we get these things,
We still wish for what we had
Listen closely
He’ll tell you how we ignore people when they tell us who they are,
Because we see them as who we want them to be
He might tell you about another man’s wife
How he ended up in the hospital because of complications
It seemed like an adventure
It was a way to let off steam
It made him feel handsome again in the middle of the aging process
He thought he had learned something from growing old,
Something that you can’t learn when you’re young
Listen to him talk about a couple of tall drinks becoming so much more
Some things happen that don’t allow you to just get on with life
He might tell you the greatest sickness of all is heartbreak,
And how everything can’t be right in life
There are always temporary bandages on permanent wounds
He might tell you that life ends,
And when it does, someone else will get your bill
A man walks into a bar,

Wearing his whole life on his sleeves

Untitled #9 - (Nostalgia)

Untitled #9 - (Nostalgia)

By
Nathan Caleb Camerer

A man doesn’t choose a woman,
A woman chooses a man
When she chooses one,
She wants to tell the world that he belongs to her
Feeling nostalgic and thinking of when you chose me
You marked me with your fingertips and lips
You made me your possession
I let you own me to my core,
But nostalgia can be delicate
It can be more potent than any poison
The pain from these old wounds
Crushing my heart,
But not just from the weight of old memories
Wishing for a time machine
Wanting to go backwards
Wanting to go forwards
Take me to a place where I felt your love
Take me to a place where I might feel your love again
A place that felt like home
A place that feels like home
I guess I’m lucky I had jokes
I’d never met you otherwise
That may not be true,
But it’s hard to believe I could do better than you
It’s hard to believe there is anything better than you
It makes me want to take you to our bedroom and lock the door,
Use my teeth to take your clothes off
Throw you on a bed and pull your hair
Ravish you in a way you’ve never been ravished
Repay you for loving me
I’m still surprised you ever did
It went great until it wasn’t great anymore
I’m still here because of you
Still trying to please you
It went bad so fast
It got sad so fast
Time to make a left turn off a cliff
Forget about the days I spent thinking about this,
And how it would feel when it happened
I fell in love and I never meant to
You became very important to me
I think you only like the beginning of things,

And our ending marked a new beginning

Perhaps, Perhaps...

Perhaps, Perhaps…

By

“Love” was invented to sell nylons,
Perhaps…
You’re born into this world alone,
Even if you’re a twin
You are the only one born at that exact moment
Perhaps, perhaps…
You die alone
Even in a plane crash,
You’re the only one who died at that exact moment
Perhaps…
The world has a bunch of rules
They distract you from these facts
You forget them
Never forget
Keep living like there’s no tomorrow,
Because there may not be one
Perhaps, perhaps…
Decide if you have everything or nothing
Living in the moment means “nothing” is “everything”
Perhaps…
They say that life goes on,
And it does,
But that might not be a good thing
Perhaps, perhaps…
We all lose someone one day
Someone important to us
It’s very painful
Perhaps…
You don’t know how long your life is going to last,
But it doesn’t end well for any of us
So move forward and hope you figure it out
Perhaps, perhaps…
Change is neither good or bad
It simply is
Greet it with joy or terror
Throw a tantrum to try and keep it the way it was
Do a dance to celebrate something new
One minute, you’re on top of the world with legs hanging down
One minute, someone’s running you over with a lawn mower
Perhaps…
Nothing good can come from revenge
Perhaps, perhaps…
Everyone makes a mistake from time to time
Perhaps…
Everyone can see what’s wrong with you,
Even when you can’t
Perhaps, perhaps…
Be careful what you wish for because you might get it
This can make others jealous
They might try and take it from you
Perhaps…
If you don’t take yourself seriously,
The world won’t either
Perhaps, perhaps…
Something good happens,
And then something bad happens
Perhaps…
You’re not the solution to my problems,
And I’m not the solution to yours
We’re just another problem for each other
Perhaps, perhaps…
No one is entitled to a fresh start
There’s no such thing
Life carries on
Perhaps…
No one is ever on your side
Perhaps, perhaps…
Throw everything out the window if a pretty face comes along
Perhaps…
Men don’t end things
We don’t have the time
We force you into a state of hate
It’s easier for us
Perhaps, perhaps…
Not every one can be what they want
There would be too many ballerina’s,
And the Space program has been shut down
Perhaps…
Sex is not the definition of being close to someone
Perhaps, perhaps…

Perhaps…

Fierce Powers

Fierce Powers

By
Nathan Caleb Camerer

I want to tickle your fancy
I want to tickle any part of you
Take my hand and we will step off the edge
Play hop-scotch in the streets
Tempt the powers at work in this world
Fierce powers
There are powers at work in this world
Fierce powers
Give them a name
Good and evil
Good luck and bad luck
Take advantage of the good
Keep your chin up in the bad
You’re like a dream I don’t want to wake up from,
But I’m losing sleep
These dreams of how it could be for you and me
Waiting for the other shoe to drop
Praying it doesn’t drop hard
A natural disaster to push us apart
Get us counting dollars,
Instead of counting stars
