Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

By
Nathan Caleb Camerer

Sitting in this smoke filled room
The sound of my inheritance
Disappearing one nickel at a time
Clinking
Jangling
Jingling in my ear
Reminds me of another time
Pretending to be a tour guide
Out of town friends with money to burn
You were home with the kids
Dirty pictures and texts
Bait
Enticing me to hurry home
Back to your loving arms
Sitting in this parking lot
Waiting on another dirty girl
Looking at the corner of this deserted parking lot
So dark at night
Top down
Windows up
You, me and the moon
The only witnesses
Sitting in this truck stop
Waiting on my road trip companion
Wishing it was you
Thinking back to when we planned this
A mythic journey of epic proportions
The life changer
Life has already changed
Sitting at this table set for two
Drinking sake for two
Eating sushi for two
Telling myself we were halfway there
Living on a prayer
Once upon a time
Not so long ago
Sitting on this beach
Waiting on another dirty girl
Flashbacks of us
Hand in hand
Barefoot in the surf
Believing a deck of cards could tell us our future
I’m just sitting here
Waiting on a girl
Wishing she would notice me
I keep sitting
I keep waiting
I keep wishing
