Dreams of Trampolines

Dreams of Trampolines

By
Nathan Caleb Camerer

You drape yourself across my shade
You nuzzle my neck
Glorious
Only a dream
A dream built by a day spent like summer vacation
The Sun was low on the horizon
The humidity was high
Your shirt was clinging to your skin
I don’t wear jealousy well
Jealous of a piece of clothing
You stretch out like Cleopatra on this black circle in the sun
Curl your arms against your chest
I wonder if there is space for me
I want to be in that little spot
The one between your arms that feels like I can’t lose
You lay your head in your hands
It’s “Show and Tell” time
All I brought was my heart and it’s on my sleeve
That feeling I got when I was 12 is fluttering in my stomach
That first kiss
This trampoline we use as a nesting place
It’s starting to play tricks on my eyes
Are you floating away from me
Or am I just jumping to high?
That spot we found
The one while on our adventure
It’ll always be ours
That waterfall is ours
Walk thru and wash away our pasts
Step into the blue sky that is the limit of our future
Standing on top of the world
The sun is gone
The moon is full
I recreate that day in dreams
In dreams I look for you
I find the footprints of your passing
I’m not a good tracker,
But I look for you until morning light
In dreams, I become lost
My head gets stuck on another time
A time when I spent a day like summer vacation
I jumped for joy and found a waterfall
I spent a day like Antony
You were my Cleopatra
That day was the wounded chance
You draped yourself across my shade
You nuzzled my neck
Glorious
Only a dream
